I finally received the results of the blood tests in the mail a couple days ago. Here's how it went...
The Pap- normal.
Thyroid (TSH)- normal.
Cholesterol- low, HDL normal, and LDL very low.
Triglycerides- very low.
Fasting Blood Sugar-normal
Everything turned out either normal, or better than normal. (I'm going to get personal here) I imagine because of my weight and PCOS, she expected some of these to be high. Nathan and I truly eat healthy. I have issues with sugar and Nathan has issues with french fries and chips. But, 90% of the time, we are eating healthy foods. We eat fresh fruits and veggies, only lean meats, rarely do we eat red meat, 90% of our carbs are 100% whole wheat grains, we use only Olive Oil, if we do eat chocolate, its usually dark chocolate. We really do make healthy choices most of the time. We just eat more than we exercise. And honestly, I can make a time line of the past five years and tell you pound for pound when each gain happened. Food is our drug. But its not like smoking or drinking. You don't have to smoke to survive, but you do have to eat to survive. Nathan and I both eat when we are emotional, bored, stressed, happy. This is our biggest problem. The next problem (not excuse... obstacle) is our activity level. Nathan's job usually involves activity, mine doesn't so much. Add the bitter weather that isn't real pleasant for walks or bike rides. I'd love to get into aerobics again, but then there's the issue of money. My final obstacle is not really having a good friend here. Not only am I spending a lot of time by myself at home, but I also don't have a walking buddy or a work out buddy. And I'm not making excuses, but telling you the obstacles I'm having to overcome. I did buy a couple exercise DVDs to do here at home. So I'm really going to try to set small goals and try to plow through these road blocks.
OK back to the test results. I'm not sure how the good blood results and not so wonderful cyst will effect treatment. The original plan was to begin with Metformin. But the blood results do not indicate that Metformin would be necessary since it is primarily used to treat conditions that I apparently don't have. And I'm guessing based on these tests, the PCOS is also on the low side of the spectrum. The next step was going to be Clomid if the Metformin didn't prove effective after three months. So my guess is that we'll first deal with the cyst, then move on to Clomid, which stimulates ovulation. If Clomid is effective its usually within the first three cycles and usually is not used beyond six cycles. There is a 10% increase chance of twins and less than 1% chance of triplets or more. So that is my guess as to where this is all headed. My prayer is that the next ultrasound will show that the cyst either dissolved itself or that God dissolved the cyst and we'll either already be pregnant or be able to begin treatment and conceive quickly.
