This weekend has been almost ideal. Friday evening we made a quick run down to Ann Arbor. I was dying to get to IKEA and Whole Foods. We made it to Ikea around 7:30. We debated and debated about what furniture we wanted and how we'd get it home. 7:30 quickly turned into 8:30; IKEA closed at 9:00. So we finally made a decision and prayed the very long flat box would somehow fit into our Honda. And it did. So we left IKEA with a new bathroom shelf, a sofa in a box, and new drinking glasses. Next, we headed to Whole Foods which closed at 10:00. We missed the exit for one of the Whole Foods. So with about 15 minutes before closing we attempted to navigate through Ann Arbor in hopes of finding the other Whole Foods. Its 9:55 and I am freaking out. So close, yet so far away. We finally stumbled upon it at 9:58. I jumped out of the car and made it in just as they were locking the doors. Phew. I didn't need a lot but I have a few essentials that I like to get from Whole Foods like cat food, shampoo, etc. So despite the time crunch, the trip south was a success. And we even stopped downtown Ann Arbor for a bit before heading back to Midland.
Saturday we got a snow storm which ended up dumping about 7-8 inches on us in a matter of a couple hours. But that didn't stop our plans. I had an afternoon baby shower to attend for a family friend from WV who also lives in Midland. It was a beautiful baby shower and Marcia is so beautiful pregnant. It was great to be able to chit chat with Marcia's mom who Nathan's parents have gone to church with for years and years. It was just nice to see someone from back home, something more familiar than anything else in Midland. Before I left, I gave Marcia a hug and said goodbye. But Marcia, having spent several years trying to conceive, said something along the lines of I know this can be hard, I was there. Knowing Marcia has worked harder than I for her baby and truly understanding the emotions behind it, I didn't for a moment think about myself, but what a tremendously joyous and miraculous time this was for her. But Marcia's thoughtfulness was just so kind. And that's really who Marcia is, just a very kind and thoughtful woman. And she will undoubtedly make a wonderful mother.
After the shower we got together with Nathan's boss, Ryan, and his wife, Angie. We had hung out with them in group settings with the kids on several occassions, but never to where we could really just sit down and talk. So they got a babysitter for the night and we ventured out through the snow to Bay City and had dinner at a nice Italian restaurant, then stopped for pie on the way home. Angie and I really have a lot in common and it was nice to really let that come out during the evening. And we laughed a lot! After dinner we came back to our place and played some board games and card games, which also made for a lot of a laughing. It was just really a great evening, and we look forward to next time.
Today we were supposed to meet our friends Megan and Scott in Lansing for the PF Changs date we had planned weeks ago, but between the snow and Nathan finding out he had to work today it wasn't able to happen. So we're hoping to reschedule soon.
Other than Nathan having to work it turned out to be a great weekend.
